Aston Villa's UEFA Europa League triumph in Istanbul sparked a viral moment when Prince William declined a phone call while capturing the celebrations on video. The Prince of Wales was present to support his favored team as they secured victory over Freiburg.

During the post-match festivities on the field, Prince William began recording the jubilant atmosphere but was interrupted by an incoming call, which he promptly rejected to remain focused on the event. The identity of the caller was not shown. This brief incident quickly gained widespread attention online.

Prior to traveling to Turkey, William expressed his support for Aston Villa via his Instagram story, writing, “Come on Villa! Good luck in tonight’s Europa League final. UTV! W.” Following the team's win, he took to X to congratulate the players and staff, stating, “Amazing night!! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware!”

He also gave special recognition to Boubacar Kamara, who had been injured but contributed to the team's success, adding, “Special shout out to Boubacar Kamara who has been out injured but is such an integral part of our team and helped lay the foundations of this success. UTV!VTID. W.”

At the post-match press conference, Villa defender Matty Cash revealed that Prince William joined the team for a drink after the match, saying, “He was in there having a beer with us. He’s just delighted. He’s such a big supporter.” Cash further noted, “He’s always coming to the training ground, always at Villa Park. And he deserves moments like these and hopefully he can let his hair down today.”

Prince William's support for Aston Villa dates back years. In a 2015 BBC interview, he explained how he became a fan, stating, “A long time ago at school, I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs.” He continued, “All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans, and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams. I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
