Rio Ferdinand anticipates Manchester United will prioritize signing Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni after missing out on other midfield targets.

Manchester United face challenges in strengthening their midfield after failing to secure two key targets, Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.
Both players were highly ranked on United’s midfield wishlist, but the club lost out as Manchester City acquired Anderson, breaking the British transfer record for the Nottingham Forest midfielder, and Tottenham Hotspur agreed to sign Fernandes for a record fee from a Championship club.
So far, Manchester United have only completed the signing of goalkeeper Ederson from Atalanta for approximately £35 million. While Ederson’s physical attributes and athleticism are notable, the club was expected to secure a high-profile midfielder to support Michael Carrick’s midfield overhaul.
Club legend Rio Ferdinand expressed confidence in United’s transfer plans, suggesting the club is reserving funds for a major midfield acquisition.
“I think Man United are holding the money back for one man, and that’s [Aurelien] Tchouameni,” Ferdinand stated on X. “If he becomes available in this market, Man United are not gonna miss – they can’t afford to miss with that one.”
Ferdinand’s mention of Tchouameni aligns with reports indicating the French international has been a long-term target for Manchester United and is considered their ideal signing.
According to The Peoples Person, Real Madrid may entertain offers for Tchouameni to adjust their midfield in line with Jose Mourinho’s preferred player profile. Additionally, the midfielder reportedly desires a move to Manchester United if Real Madrid approves his transfer.
The 26-year-old midfielder is having an impressive World Cup performance in North America and is viewed as a suitable replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford, having already demonstrated his capabilities in that role at Santiago Bernabeu.
