The club has cancelled a planned pre-match ceremony honouring its eight Spanish World Cup-winning players. President Joan Laporta cited the context surrounding Sunday’s 5–0 win over Elche as the reason, referencing incidents in which national police officers allegedly assaulted travelling Barcelona supporters and confiscated pro-independence Estelada flags.

Laporta condemned what he termed “the disproportionate action of the national police officers” and reaffirmed the club’s stance on freedom of expression. “The ceremony to honour the world champions will not take place because it is not being held in the most appropriate context,” he said. He added: “We condemn and reject the disproportionate action of the national police officers who assaulted Barca fans for carrying the Estelada before the Elche game. We hope that appropriate punishment will help ensure that Catalans and Barca fans can carry the flag without fear of physical harm.”
