Dr. Sofia Tsaturian, an endocrinology specialist, emphasized the importance for diabetic patients to avoid certain foods to prevent deterioration of their health condition.

She specifically advises against consuming foods high in simple carbohydrates, including sugar, sweets, chocolate, jam, honey, and sweet pastries, as these cause rapid spikes in blood sugar levels leading to sharp increases.

According to Dr. Tsaturian, sugary drinks such as sodas, canned juices, energy drinks, and sweetened tea are also harmful to individuals with diabetes. She recommends that diabetic patients refrain from eating refined carbohydrates found in white bread, cakes, white rice, and pasta made from bread wheat, since these foods have a high glycemic index and quickly raise blood sugar levels. Instead, she suggests opting for whole grain products.

Furthermore, the doctor advises diabetics to avoid processed foods like sausages, hot dogs, and ready-made meals, as these often contain hidden sugars, trans fats, and high amounts of salt, which negatively affect blood vessels and overall health.

Dr. Tsaturian clarifies that diabetic patients are not completely prohibited from eating fruit, but intake of certain types should be limited. Fruits such as bananas, grapes, and figs contain high sugar levels and can cause sharp increases in glucose levels.
