The Secretariat of the Maronite Patriarchate issued a statement, announcing that the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Daryan, made a call to the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, reassuring him about his health, and strongly condemning the offense that targeted him.
According to the statement, Mufti Daryan affirmed "his full solidarity with Patriarch Al-Rahi, emphasizing that these offenses do not affect a person or a specific authority only, but rather target the core of national dignity and harm the image and values of Lebanon." He also declared his support for the Patriarch, affirming that Dar Al-Fatwa, with all its authorities and religious bodies, stands united in support of him.
The Secretariat added that "this stance comes to confirm that attacking spiritual symbols is an attack on national unity, and that Lebanon, in its diversity, remains stronger than all attempts to undermine its symbols or sow discord among its people."
