Directorate General of General Security Threatens Legal Prosecution for Publishers of Slander and Defamation

Issued by the Media Affairs Office of General Security the following statement: "Some media websites and social media platforms are circulating the names of some officers affiliated with the Directorate General of General Security with accusations without any evidence.

These acts fall within the framework of the crimes of slander, defamation, and libel stipulated in the Lebanese Penal Code, and the Directorate General of General Security reserves its right to file a complaint against anyone who harms its reputation and the reputation of its officers and members.

Therefore, and based on professional standards and principles of transparency, the Directorate General of General Security requests accuracy in approaching any news or information that deals with it or any of its employees, under penalty of taking appropriate legal action against the perpetrators.

It also expresses its readiness to provide any clarifications or receive any tangible information in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks and the mechanism for submitting complaints, whether via the hotline, the Complaints Division, or email.

The Directorate General of General Security calls upon citizens and all media and social media to exercise national responsibility and not to harm the security agencies without conclusive evidence, especially given the existence of an independent judicial authority that makes Lebanon distinguished in upholding justice and safeguarding the rights of all its citizens without any discrimination.

Mutual trust between citizens and law enforcement authorities in Lebanon, foremost among them the Lebanese Army, constitutes a guarantee for preserving the country's security and the rights of its people, and breaking its prestige only serves those parties that lie in wait for the country to strike stability in it".
