Economy Ministry Continues Monitoring Pricing and Food Safety in All Regions

The Ministry of Economy and Trade, through its regional departments, continues to carry out field inspection tours in various Lebanese regions, as part of following up on citizens' complaints, protecting consumer rights, and ensuring compliance with official pricing and general food safety rules.

In a preliminary tally of inspection activities over the past days, the ministry announced that "26 violation reports and 5 warnings were issued in various regions, while the number of reports organized against violating generator owners in the South alone reached 51 since the beginning of September."

In the Bekaa, the department carried out patrols in Ali al-Nahri, Baalbek, Qassara, and Housh al-Amir, and followed up on weighing files. Additionally, 2 violation reports were organized for breaches of general food safety rules at a restaurant and a chicken slaughterhouse.

In the North, the department followed up on citizens' complaints related to private generators in Tripoli, Zgharta, Mreiyata, Batroun, Koura, Akkar, and Denniyeh. Eight violation reports were issued against generator owners in Nour Square, Zaharieh, and Qobbeh in Tripoli; Bireh in Akkar; Alma and Mreiyata in Zgharta; and Marah Siraj in Denniyeh, due to their violation of the official tariff issued by the Ministry of Energy, where they charged around 80 cents per kilowatt/hour. In addition, 5 written warnings and pledges were directed in Batroun and Zgharta regarding the necessity of complying with the official tariff.

In the South, in cooperation and coordination with the General Directorate of State Security and Internal Security Forces, and upon the instruction of the Public Prosecutor in the South, Judge Zaher Hammadeh, judicial reports were opened, violators were summoned, and 16 violation reports were organized against generator owners who violated the official tariff. The violations included Harat Saida, Saida, Barameh, Villat, Al-Qiya'a, Majdaloun, Bdeias, Tura, Burj Rahal, Jouaya, Batouleh, and Teirdaba.

According to the tally of inspection activities in the South Governorate, the number of violation reports organized against generator owners violating the official kilowatt/hour tariff for August reached 51 reports during the period from September 1 to September 22.

The ministry affirmed "its continuation in intensifying inspection tours and following up on citizens' complaints, taking legal measures against violators, to preserve consumer rights and prevent the collection of additional amounts contrary to official tariffs, alongside continuing oversight of food safety, weighing, and pricing files in various regions."
