Electricity Cut Off from Government Agencies and Public Institutions Over Unpaid Bills!

Issued by the Board of Directors of the "Electricity of Lebanon" Authority:

"In implementation of the decision issued by the Board of Directors of the Electricity of Lebanon Authority on Friday, August 14, 2026, calling for government agencies, public institutions, and municipalities to settle their obligations and dues owed to the Authority, and in light of the decision granting concerned entities a five-working-day grace period to rectify their status, under penalty of electricity disconnection starting this coming Monday, it is imperative for the Board of Directors to clarify the following to the public:

First: Electricity of Lebanon has commenced enforcing the Board's decision by disconnecting electricity from agencies, institutions, and municipalities that have not paid their dues or communicated with the Authority during the specified grace period to settle their accounts or request an extension and define a clear payment plan.

Second: The Board extends its gratitude to all government agencies, public institutions, and municipalities that responded to the Board’s decision and have already paid their dues or part of them, as this constitutes direct support for the continuity of the public utility and the assurance of electricity supply. The Board urges those who have partially settled their dues to clear the remaining balance within a maximum of ten days from the date of this statement, to avoid enforcement actions against them.

Third: The Authority urges all government agencies, public institutions, municipalities, and relevant subscribers to promptly settle their outstanding obligations, either directly at the Electricity of Lebanon Authority’s cash boxes or through transfers made by the Ministry of Finance into the Authority’s accounts, each according to the legally approved mechanisms. It emphasized that regular collection and payment of dues are essential elements enabling it to ensure the continuity of electricity supply and the proper functioning of the public utility, particularly amid current financial and economic conditions, rising fuel costs, global oil prices, and additional burdens resulting from international developments and crises on electricity production costs.

Fourth: The Board reaffirms that these measures apply uniformly to all concerned parties, and the objective is not merely to cut off power, but to collect public funds owed to the Electricity of Lebanon Authority, ensure fairness among subscribers, and guarantee the continuity of the public utility and the Authority’s ability to provide electricity.

The Board calls upon all entities still delinquent in payments to immediately contact the Electricity of Lebanon Authority and resolve their status within the prescribed deadlines, to avoid having their electricity disconnected in accordance with the Board’s decisions."
