France Calls for Emergency UN Security Council Meeting on Israeli Escalation in Lebanon
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot urges an urgent Security Council session over ongoing Israeli military actions in Lebanon.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address the ongoing escalation between Lebanon and Israel, stating that there is no justification for the continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Barrot said, "It is acceptable to recognize Israel's right to self-defense against attacks by Hezbollah that have drawn Lebanon into conflict since March 2, but nothing justifies the prolonged Israeli military operations and their deepening daily occupation of Lebanese territory." He emphasized that "this is a serious mistake by Israel, as the extended duration and occupation contradict its commitments following the ceasefire signed on April 17, violate international law, and do not serve Israel's interests."
He warned that "every village bombed and every casualty strengthens Hezbollah in the long term," noting that "Israeli expansion in Lebanon worsens the crisis and does not contribute to regional stability."
