Labor Minister Mohamed Haidar met with a delegation from the Health Ministry retirees committee, who presented the dire conditions faced by contracted employees retired since 2023 upon reaching the legal retirement age. The retirees receive a severance pay that does not exceed $1,500, and sometimes less, despite having served more than thirty years in public service.

The committee emphasized the urgent need to expedite the implementation of Retirement Law 319/23 and to complete the related executive decrees.

Discussions also addressed the possibility of amending the law or reconsidering it to include those who retired before its enactment, as well as the importance of allowing retirees to choose between severance compensation or a retirement pension.

The committee informed Haidar about the unfair burdens placed on retirees, who are considered non-productive compared to the amounts they are required to pay annually as social security contributions.

Minister Haidar promised to study these demands and present them to the Council of Ministers promptly for appropriate decisions.
