The Hebrew newspaper "Jerusalem Post" revealed on Sunday that the Israeli military has begun accelerating the pace of destroying Hezbollah's military infrastructure in southern Lebanon, in accordance with directives from Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, noting that part of this infrastructure was constructed in the form of "military fortresses."

In a report, the newspaper stated that the current Israeli military focus is on Hezbollah strongholds, most of which are Shiite-majority villages, with the army asserting that the group established military infrastructure there with Iranian funding over more than two decades.

The paper quoted officers from the Israeli Northern Command as saying that Hezbollah, under Iranian direction, developed a strategic plan primarily focused on establishing extensive military infrastructure across southern Lebanon.

According to the report, the plan included villages such as Kfar Kila, Al-Khiyam, Bint Jbeil, and Al-Tibbi, due to their strategic locations along key roads and hills, granting them military significance and enabling the group rapid access to the Israeli border should it launch attacks toward the Galilee.

Armories and Command Centers

During inspections and raids conducted by Israeli forces in these areas, the army said it discovered numerous facilities used by Hezbollah operatives as hiding and long-term residence sites, allowing them to move from concealed positions and carry out surprise attacks.

According to the newspaper, the facilities uncovered by the army included weapon storage depots, command centers, observation posts, and missile launch platforms.

The operations are not limited to destroying the group’s infrastructure; the army is also opening new roads to facilitate access to operational zones, enhance troop protection, and speed up supply delivery.

These roads are also expected to allow maintenance teams to reach Lebanese territory to repair engineering vehicles and armored units operating in the region.

Military Infrastructure Beneath Homes

The newspaper reported that some villages were constructed in a manner resembling "military fortresses," designed to provide advanced engineering protection for Hezbollah fighters, particularly against Israeli airstrikes.

It added that Israeli inspections have revealed military infrastructure within villages and towns, including beneath civilian homes, such as in eastern Zouk.

The Israeli army stated that continuing its engineering operations in these areas aims to prevent Hezbollah from regaining the ability to conduct guerrilla warfare operations.

The paper cited field officers who said Israeli forces, with intelligence support, are conducting inspections in small villages, including Beit al-Sayyad south of Saida, where the army claims Hezbollah heavily invested in building military infrastructure, while Israeli engineering units work to destroy it.
