Lebanese Army Chief Concludes Greece Visit, Discusses Military Cooperation and Joint Training

General Rudolf Heikal, commander of the Lebanese Army, concluded his official visit to Greece, which lasted from June 15 to June 17, 2026, upon the invitation of his Greek counterpart, General Dimitrios Choupis, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff.

The visit began at the Greek Army headquarters with formal honors, during which General Heikal laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Following the ceremony, General Heikal met with General Choupis to discuss matters of mutual interest and current developments on regional and international levels.

An extended meeting was held including both generals and officers from both sides, where the responsibilities of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff were presented alongside discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation, particularly in the area of joint military training.

Emphasis was placed on continuing coordination and the necessity of supporting the military institution amid the current challenges it faces.

General Heikal expressed his appreciation to the Greek authorities for the military assistance previously provided to the Lebanese Army and praised the professionalism and expertise of the Greek Army.

In response, General Choupis stated that the Lebanese Army plays a fundamental role in maintaining Lebanon’s stability and security, affirming that Greece will continue its military support initiatives for the Lebanese Army in the upcoming period.
