Indian Woman Wins $10,200 Sleep Contest After Two-Month Challenge
A Mumbai resident secured the "Sleep Champion" title and a cash prize after winning a two-month competition organized by a local furniture company.

Jinia Chatterjee, a young woman from Mumbai, claimed the title of "Sleep Champion" and won 960,000 rupees (approximately $10,200) along with an all-expenses-paid tourist trip. The victory followed a two-month competition that attracted thousands of applicants across India, transforming daily sleep habits into a high-stakes contest for financial rewards.
Competition Structure and Qualification
The event was organized by a local home furniture company and received over 200,000 participation requests. Following several rounds of screening and personal interviews, only 10 contestants advanced to the main phase. Throughout the approximately 60-day period, participants were required to prioritize sleep, adhere to regular schedules, and engage in weekly challenges combining sleep quality measurement with creativity tests. Daily performance tracking influenced their standing on the leaderboard, with sleep results determining their rank.
Unconventional Tasks and Weekly Awards
Victory depended on more than just total hours slept; the contest featured non-traditional missions. One task, the "Sleep Cinema" challenge, asked participants to reenact famous movie scenes while incorporating sleep-related ideas. Another, the "Sleep Bingo," evaluated sleeping habits over a full week. Additionally, the "Secret Sleep Mission" required contestants to insert the words "blanket" or "pillow" ten times into conversations without detection by their interlocutors. The participant with the best weekly performance earned the title of "Sleep Professional of the Week," as reported by Indian channel NDTV.
Final Stage Challenges and Outcome
The concluding phase, named "The Big Bed," involved two primary hurdles for the finalists. The first, the "Memory Foam Challenge," tested observation, memory, and teamwork by requiring contestants to redesign a bedroom based on reference images. The second, the "Sleep Auction," demanded bidding on essential sleep items such as pillows, blankets, air conditioning controls, lighting, and sound systems. After these tasks, the remaining competitors spent a final night in specially designed bedrooms. Their sleep results determined the winner, with Jinia Chatterjee securing the top spot and the associated prizes funded by the organizing company.
