Lebanese Civil Defense Extinguishes Fire in Batroun Highlands

The Lebanese General Directorate of Civil Defense’s Information and Public Relations Department issued a statement confirming that its personnel successfully contained and extinguished a wildfire that broke out in the Batroun highlands.

Civil Defense teams engaged in continuous operations amid challenging topography and limited access to fire sources, ultimately bringing the blaze under full control.

Joint response across multiple units

Approximately ten Civil Defense centers deployed personnel to the site, supported by the Lebanese Army’s Second Artillery Regiment and military helicopters. Crews focused on encircling active flames and preventing their spread toward the Tannourine Cedars Reserve and adjacent areas.

Injury during firefighting operations

During suppression efforts, one Civil Defense member sustained wounds and fractures after a detonation of a legacy landmine from wartime remnants. The individual was transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.

Post-extinguishment monitoring concluded at 3 a.m.

Civil Defense personnel remained on-site to conduct cooling and surveillance activities until 3 a.m., concluding their mission only after verifying complete fire extinction and confirming no remaining hotspots.
