Lebanese Prisoners End 30-Day Hunger Strike Following Constitutional Court Ruling on General Amnesty
Lebanese prisoners have ended a 30-day hunger and medication strike after the Constitutional Council issued its ruling on the general amnesty law, though some remain disappointed by certain interpretations.

Prisoners in Lebanon have ended an open hunger and medication strike that lasted 30 days, protesting the fate of the general amnesty law. This decision came following the issuance of the Constitutional Council's ruling on the law, amid disappointment among a number of them regarding the interpretations accompanying the decision, as announced by the prisoners' spokesperson.
The spokesperson announced the end of the open hunger and medication strike following the Constitutional Council's decision regarding the general amnesty law.
He stated that the decision to end the strike came after the law's fate became clear, noting a state of disappointment among a section of the prisoners regarding some interpretations provided by the Constitutional Council, considering that they "touched the essence of a number of articles of the law and introduced actual amendments, instead of limiting themselves to explanatory interpretations of their application mechanisms."
He added: "We congratulate everyone who will be covered by the amnesty law and hope that prison doors will open for them as soon as possible," while emphasizing at the same time that the end of the strike does not mean the end of movements demanding justice for the remaining prisoners.
He continued: "Our battle will not end here, and we will continue to do everything possible, through available means, until the last wronged person leaves prison."
Hundreds of prisoners in several Lebanese prisons had engaged in an open hunger and medication strike over 30 days, demanding the reinstatement of the general amnesty law and the resolution of its fate after the appeal submitted to the Constitutional Council.
