Lebanon Prepares for Rome

Lebanon's official focus is on the second meeting between Lebanon and Israel, scheduled to be held with American mediation at the US Embassy in Rome from August 4 to 6. Nidaa al-Watan learned that former Ambassador Simon Karam will head the Lebanese diplomatic and military delegation participating in the meeting.

Information indicates that the delegation will prioritize two main files: first, accusing Israel of deliberately obstructing the completion of the Lebanese army's deployment in the first model areas by continuing its attacks; and second, discussing the second phase of the model areas, with emphasis that they should include areas entirely under occupation.

At the heart of the preparations for this track, a former security source told Nidaa al-Watan that the real test of the model areas, from the Lebanese side, will be in the populated areas, especially those extending between the banks of the Litani and Awali rivers, where Hezbollah is still heavily present, and its infrastructure has not been destroyed as happened south of the Litani or in the security zone, and where it can use the 'residents' card'. As for the destroyed and depopulated villages and towns, the Lebanese army's mission will be easier.
