Lebanon Seeks Written Guarantees as Iran Treats It as Strategic Asset
Iran views Lebanon as a strategic issue while Lebanon aims for written guarantees to secure a ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal.

Political sources revealed to Al Jadeed channel that Iran considers Lebanon a strategic matter. The sixty-day deadline places Israel in a state of anticipation regarding the atmosphere of US-Iranian negotiations, amid the absence of deterrents against limited military actions or movements in southern Lebanon.
The sources added that the Lebanese delegation remains open to discussions about so-called experimental zones, excluding direct coordination between the Lebanese army and Israel. They indicated that Lebanon seeks to obtain written guarantees to solidify a ceasefire and ensure Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory, in exchange for Lebanon's commitment to keeping the area south of the Litani River free of weapons.
Furthermore, the sources noted that Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri’s proposal concerning the experimental zones focused on reactivating the “Mechanism” committee and restoring its role as a liaison for field and military coordination between the two sides.
