Legislative session and chaos in the parliament, protest actions around it

Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri opened the parliamentary legislative session today, Tuesday, with a minute of silence for the passing of former Deputy Speaker Michel Mawlaoui, before ringing the bell to signal the start of the session.

Shouting and disputes were recorded inside the parliament over the general amnesty law.

The legislative session began with 69 members present, while additional deputies arrived late due to traffic congestion caused by security measures implemented alongside protest demonstrations.

At the same time as the session was underway, protest activities and sit-ins took place around the parliament, including a sit-in organized by the Committee for the Defense of Tenant Rights, protesting rental laws in both residential and non-residential sectors.

Meanwhile, the main road in central Beirut was blocked during the legislative session as part of actions carried out by public and military retirees demanding their financial and livelihood rights.
