Parliamentary Committee Discusses Regulation of Optometric Professions and Citizen Health Protection
A parliamentary subcommittee met to discuss a draft law regulating optometric professions, aiming to balance professional interests with the protection of public health.

The parliamentary subcommittee tasked with studying the draft law on regulating optometric professions held a session at the Parliament House, chaired by MP Bilal Abdullah and attended by committee members, along with representatives from syndicates, concerned parties, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Association of Ophthalmologists.
After the session, Abdullah clarified that "the session constituted the first meeting of the subcommittee emanating from the joint parliamentary committees, dedicated to discussing the draft law submitted by MP Elias Jarada, and reviewing the opinions of various stakeholders involved in regulating optometric professions."
He pointed out "differences in opinions regarding the most suitable format for regulating these professions, particularly concerning the establishment of a syndicate," noting that "the discussion addressed the pros and cons of various proposals and the concerns associated with them."
Abdullah affirmed that "the committee will take into account the interests of professionals, specialists, and centers," while stressing that "the primary objective of the legislation is to protect citizen health and ensure the best possible service at the lowest cost."
He indicated that "the committee did not reach a final conclusion during today's session, and will continue examining the draft law in subsequent sessions."
