British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa Stephen Doughty welcomed Lebanon’s historic vote to abolish the death penalty as “a welcome step forward.”

Stephen Doughty, UK Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa and Labour MP for Cardiff South and Penarth, welcomed Lebanon’s historic parliamentary vote to abolish the death penalty, describing it as “a welcome step forward.”
Doughty stated that the vote “affirms the country’s commitment to strengthening democratic values and fundamental freedoms.”
He added, “I look forward to working with the Lebanese government as it continues its vital reform efforts.”
