The Zoukter al-Sharqiya municipality has issued an urgent appeal addressed to President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The call was made on behalf of the town’s municipal council, its elective council, and its residents.
The municipality demanded immediate intervention to halt all earthmoving operations, explosive detonations, and demolition activities targeting residential buildings, private property, and critical infrastructure within Zoukter al-Sharqiya.
It affirmed that every facility and dwelling under threat is exclusively civilian in nature and constitutes private property belonging to Lebanese citizens. None of the affected structures are used for, or equipped with, any non-civilian function.
The municipality urged the Lebanese state to launch urgent diplomatic and political action and to apply the necessary pressure to bring these demolition, bulldozing, and blasting operations to an end.
