Thieves stole electrical transformers in the southern Lebanese town of Ansariya, stripping them for copper and dumping the remains in an irrigation canal.

As Israeli attacks and evacuation orders roil southern Lebanon, particularly the coastal town of Ansariya — home to the Qasimiyeh-Ras al-Ain irrigation project — thieves have struck public infrastructure. The Litani River Authority reported that looters stole electrical transformers belonging to Electricité du Liban, which were designated to power the town.
The perpetrators dismantled the transformers, illegally extracted the copper, and then dumped the industrial waste into the Qasimiyeh irrigation canal, which is managed by the Litani River Authority. The act combines theft, vandalism, and environmental pollution, directly damaging the public electricity grid and the irrigation network that supplies water to farmers and supports Lebanon's food security.
