Nicolas Cage secured emergency building permits to protect his $10.5 million Malibu beachfront property from a rapidly growing sinkhole.

A massive sinkhole threatening the edge of Nicolas Cage’s California beachfront estate has prompted the actor to file three emergency building permits with city officials. The filings, submitted on September 8 according to an exclusive Page Six report, aim to stabilize the ground surrounding his $10.5 million property in Malibu.
The approved permits authorize crews to remove asphalt debris linked to the sinkhole, collect soil samples, and excavate the affected area. Additionally, shoring structures will be installed to support the surrounding terrain. One specific application allows for the placement of sandbags along the beach and outside the residence to mitigate wave impact and further coastal erosion.
Initial assessments described the chasm as measuring 30 feet in length and width. However, the void has since expanded significantly, now encircling the perimeter of Cage’s home and reaching its front door. While no injuries have been reported, emergency responders addressed a gas leak at the scene. Cage was reportedly absent when the sinkhole appeared, spending most of his time in Nevada. His representatives did not respond to requests for comment.
Days after the geological shift occurred, Malibu authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for the neighborhood. Officials declared all 31 homes along the street unsafe due to structural risks. The road became inaccessible to vehicles, preventing firefighters and sheriff’s deputies from reaching the area during emergencies.
Cage acquired the four-story luxury villa on August 23, 2024, for $10.5 million. The property spans approximately 4,000 square feet and sits directly on the beachfront. Documents indicate that local officials approved additional permits specifically to manage the debris and prepare the site for stabilization work.
