Jessica Chastain disclosed that Jeremy Strong sent a middle-finger emoji after her film Other Mommy outperformed his The Social Reckoning at the box office.
A $27.5 million opening weekend for Jessica Chastain’s latest thriller triggered a humorous, albeit petty, response from longtime friend Jeremy Strong. Following the commercial defeat of his film, The Social Reckoning, by Chastain’s Other Mommy, the two actors engaged in a playful text exchange that culminated in Strong sending a middle-finger emoji.
Strong initiated the conversation by texting Chastain the headline: “‘Other Mommy’ Spanks ‘The Social Reckoning’ at the Box Office.” The financial disparity was stark; Chastain’s movie claimed the No. 1 spot with $27.5 million, while Strong’s project opened with just $5.5 million. Upon receiving the message, The Help star replied simply, “Omg.” Strong then responded with a combination of middle-finger and kiss emojis.
The banter continued beyond the initial reaction. As reported by Variety, Chastain later messaged Strong, noting, “These pics are hysterical.” The Apprentice actor agreed, replying, “It’s so funny,” before Chastain concluded the thread with, “You look SO SAD!”
Chastain and Strong have maintained a close bond for more than 20 years. Their relationship originated during the period when both were working to establish their careers in Hollywood. In December 2021, Chastain publicly acknowledged on X (formerly Twitter) that she had known Strong for over two decades.
The pair has collaborated professionally on three films: Molly’s Game (2012), Molly’s Game (2017), and The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021).
