A post-credits scene in Other Mommy shows the entity surviving, reframing the film's ending despite its apparent destruction.

The horror does not end with the credits in Other Mommy. A brief, eerie sequence following the roll of names delivers a final unsettling beat that fundamentally shifts the interpretation of the movie’s conclusion. This stinger confirms the supernatural threat remains active even after the main narrative resolves.
In this scene, the character known as Other Mommy gazes directly down at the camera lens. She raises a finger to her lips and emits a quiet, whispered “Shhhhhhhh.” The visual suggests the entity persists despite being seemingly destroyed during the film’s climax.
The primary story concludes on a warmer emotional note before this twist appears. Bela outsmarts Other Mommy by feigning an offer of her heart, leading to the entity’s destruction. Following this, the family reconciles in a winter setting where they hang Christmas lights together. During this moment, Bela observes that her mother’s neck scar corresponds with a mark on her own back.
Rob Savage directed the project, which Universal Pictures released on October 9, 2026. Nathan Elston penned the screenplay, adapting Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. Jessica Chastain portrays dual roles as Ursula and the titular Other Mommy. The supporting cast includes Jay Duplass, Arabella Olivia Clark, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, and Karen Allen.
James Wan produced the film via his Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Principal photography occurred in Dublin, Ireland, between May and July 2025. The production originally used a working title based on the source material. Universal subsequently moved the release date from May 2026 to October.
Early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes indicate a negative skew for critics weighing in on Other Mommy. One reviewer described the film as overly reliant on gimmicky flourishes while lacking a coherent message. Another critic noted that while the opening is strong, the subsequent portions struggle to maintain that quality.
The plot centers on seven-year-old Bela, whose home is infiltrated by a sinister presence. Other Mommy assumes the form of Bela’s mother and repeatedly requests entry into the child’s heart. The entity exploits existing fractures within the family unit, including marital issues between the parents and concealed secrets.
