On May 23, Taylor Swift and her fiancé, Kelce, were spotted cheering for the Cleveland Cavaliers during their game against the New York Knicks, sparking criticism from Knicks supporters. Kelce, an Ohio native, was visibly backing his hometown team alongside Swift.

Taylor Swift Faces Backlash from Knicks Fans

Knicks fans expressed their displeasure over Swift’s support for the Cavaliers. Outside Madison Square Garden, fan Alex Jenis called Swift “a traitor,” adding, “You can’t just turn into a Cavs fan because your fiancé is. I don’t f**k with that.”

Another fan, Cecilia Williams, voiced her disappointment: “I’m disappointed. If my fiancé was for the opposing team, I’d still rock my Knicks jersey while I’m sitting right next to him.” Sono Singh labeled Swift “a fake fan” and “bandwagon.” Although Swift has previously worn Knicks apparel, fans were upset by her support for the Cavaliers on May 23, especially as Kelce cheered loudly for the team.

Despite Swift and Kelce’s backing, the Knicks won the game and advanced to the NBA Finals. The fans’ frustration grew given Swift’s upcoming wedding plans in New York City. According to an exclusive report by Page Six, Swift and Kelce will marry on July 3 in New York City.

Some Knicks supporters argued that the wedding should be held in Kelce’s hometown instead. Jordan Phillips commented, “Take it to Ohio. I didn’t like Taylor Swift to begin with, so this is just another reason not to like her. Going from a Knicks fan to a Cavs fan because of your husband just means you’re not a die-hard fan.”

Max Modica shared a similar view, stating, “They might as well get married in Cleveland. I won’t go to their wedding.” Khoa Nguyen suggested Swift “should write a song apologizing to the city for rooting for the Cavs.”
