Quaid Slams Hathaway: 'She’s Not Sexy'

“Anne isn’t sexy, because and if you haven’t noticed, she’s pregnant,” Randy Quaid wrote on X, launching a public critique of Anne Hathaway’s casting in Days of Thunder 2. Quaid, an actor in the original 1990 racing film, targeted both the creative decision and its perceived audience alignment, asserting that Nicole Kidman — who portrayed Dr. Claire Lewicki in the first installment — should return instead.

Quaid’s Public Appeal to Tom Cruise

Quaid directly addressed Tom Cruise on social media, writing: “We need Nicole back. Don’t be a p***y, @TomCruise. You need the original girl. It’s not personal; it’s filmmaking.” He framed the casting as a matter of narrative continuity and commercial logic, insisting that reuniting Cruise and Kidman would better serve the film’s identity than introducing a new co-star.

In a follow-up post, Quaid expanded his position: “If I were in control of production, a real sequel worth watching for DAYS OF THUNDER would be seeing Tom and Nicole together on screen again. We don’t need a new girl; we need a new race car!” He also criticized Hathaway’s political orientation, stating, “Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” and added, “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That’s the casting that would sell the idea.”

Paramount’s Confirmed Casting and Release Timeline

Paramount Pictures has officially confirmed Anne Hathaway’s role in the sequel. She will appear alongside Tom Cruise and is set to portray a team owner and engineer. The studio has not disclosed additional plot details. Days of Thunder 2 is scheduled for theatrical release in IMAX on June 2, 2028.

Prior to his critical remarks, Quaid posted a video on X claiming, “Hey, Tom Cruise just called me. We’re making Days of Thunder 2!” — suggesting the possibility of his own return to the franchise, though no official confirmation has been issued by Paramount.
