A senior palace official is orchestrating a secret plan to end the rift between Princes William and Harry, aiming to spare King Charles further distress.

A new report from the British newspaper *Mirror* has revealed that Theo Rycroft, King Charles III's private secretary, has emerged as a central figure working to end the ongoing rift between Princes William and Harry. The former diplomat, appointed to his role in December 2024, has reportedly taken on the mission of reconciliation to "spare the King further pain," believing the feud has reached an illogical stage and is causing deep sorrow for Charles.
Rycroft is described as a quiet and intelligent negotiator who has earned significant trust within the palace's inner circle. His successful management of the King and Queen's state visit to the United States last month has bolstered his standing. A key factor in his potential success is his close working relationship with Prince William; the two have collaborated on high-level diplomatic occasions, including a meeting with President Donald Trump during the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Reports indicate Rycroft believes it is necessary to "force" the brothers to shake hands in order to clear the air, which would pave the way for the King to repair his relationship with his younger son, Harry. Despite the complexity of the situation—including rumors that Prince William refuses to even mention his brother's name following the controversial memoir *Spare*—Rycroft's growing influence may change the dynamic.
Attention is currently focused on next year, when a meeting between the King and Harry is possible during the latter's visit to the UK for the Invictus Games in Birmingham. Rycroft is said to strongly support this meeting, in contrast to some other palace aides.
The question remains whether this diplomatic effort can break the deadlock that has defined the brothers' relationship since 2022.
