Hoboken, New Jersey — A brief pause in production allowed Sydney Sweeney to fulfill a commitment she had made earlier. During the filming of The Housemaid’s Secret, the actress stopped to speak with a group of children on set. She told them she would come back later to take pictures together. True to her word, Sweeney returned between takes to pose with the young fans, an interaction captured in videos shared on Instagram.

Fan interactions define on-set atmosphere

The moment highlighted the actress’s engagement with supporters outside the typical celebrity-fan dynamic. While shooting the sequel to 2025’s The Housemaid in the Garden State, Sweeney maintained visibility among local spectators. Videos circulating online show the specific exchange where she promised the return visit. The kids’ delight upon seeing her come back underscores the positive reception she has received from audiences during this production phase.

Sweeney is reprising her role as Millie, the central character from the first film. Michele Morrone also returns as Enzo, continuing their on-screen partnership. On October 14, both actors were observed filming scenes together in Hoboken. This work follows the massive commercial performance of the original movie, which generated over $400 million worldwide against a $35 million budget. Lionsgate approved the sequel less than a month after the first film’s theatrical release, confirming Sweeney and Morrone shortly thereafter.

Production details and cast expansions

Paul Feig directs The Housemaid’s Secret, returning to helm the franchise. Sweeney and Freida McFadden, author of the source novel, serve as executive producers. The cast includes Kirsten Dunst, who joined in March for an undisclosed role. Paul Anthony Kelly portrays Douglas Garrick, while Stephen Kalyn and Brittany Snow complete the ensemble. The narrative centers on Millie accepting a new housekeeping position for a woman she never meets face-to-face. Behind a locked door, she discovers secrets darker than her own past.

Amanda Seyfried previously indicated interest in appearing in the follow-up. Speaking to Variety at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January, she expressed a desire to see how the story maintains relevance for her character. The Housemaid’s Secret is scheduled for theatrical release on December 17, 2027.
