At least 27 people were killed and several others injured in a massive fire that broke out at a bar in the Thai capital Bangkok, according to Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

The Prime Minister said in a statement at the scene that rescue teams recovered 27 bodies, while a number of injured were taken to hospitals, confirming that the causes of the fire are still under investigation.

Rescue workers reported that the fire broke out around midnight at a bar in the Lat Phrao area north of the capital, and it took firefighters about half an hour to bring it under control.

Thai public broadcaster Thai PBS World reported that the death toll could be higher, indicating at least 30 people were killed, while authorities have not yet confirmed this figure.
