A seismic event measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck the city of Sukabumi in West Java, Indonesia, on Sunday. The tremor occurred approximately 193 kilometers southwest of the urban center at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to data released by the country’s meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency.
Authorities have not received any reports concerning human casualties or material destruction resulting from the quake. The initial assessment indicates that the seismic activity did not cause significant harm to infrastructure or residents in the affected area.
Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire. This geological zone is characterized by the convergence of multiple tectonic plates, which leads to recurrent volcanic and seismic activity across various parts of the archipelago.
