Brazilian Suspect Arrested After Cross-Dressing, Carrying Toddler in

Brazilian authorities have apprehended Jurilan Lopes da Silva, a 33-year-old man wanted in connection with a series of homicides in northeastern Brazil. The arrest followed an extended security operation involving civil and military police forces, federal intelligence agencies, and the Federal Highway Police, which provided critical information leading to his capture in the city of Molungo.

Unusual Disguise and Failed Evasion Attempt

In an unconventional bid to evade law enforcement, Lopes da Silva attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a women’s dress, a wig, dark glasses, painted nails, and women’s footwear. He also carried a toddler approximately two years old while moving through the area — an effort apparently intended to reinforce his altered appearance and deflect suspicion. Investigators later determined the child was neither his son nor related to him, prompting a separate inquiry into how the child came to be in his custody during the escape attempt.

The disguise ultimately failed when part of his clothing shifted during movement, revealing a tattoo on his body that drew the attention of officers and enabled them to confirm his identity.

Alleged Confessions and Ongoing Investigations

Following his detention, Lopes da Silva made statements that prompted heightened investigative interest. He claimed responsibility for approximately 80 killings over the course of his life. Authorities have not verified this figure and are currently cross-referencing his statements against existing homicide case files, forensic evidence, and official crime records.

He acknowledged committing 11 murders during interrogation, according to Brazilian media reports, and stated he began carrying out killings at age 13. At present, investigators are focusing on 16 homicides that occurred within a three-month period in the Mamanguape Valley region of Paraíba state. Police say they possess evidence linking him to several of those incidents.

Claims of Personal Vendetta and Organized Crime Ties

Lopes da Silva denied affiliation with any criminal faction but asserted that some of the killings took place within what he described as a “personal war” against individuals he alleged had threatened him and members of his family. Authorities are also examining potential links between him and a criminal group active in the region.

Officials stress that his claim of involvement in around 80 murders remains unconfirmed and will only be treated as substantiated once his statements are corroborated by ongoing investigations, technical evidence, and established homicide records.
