German Prosecutor Sibel Tunç Dies in Istanbul; Judicial Inquiry Launched

Sibel Tunç, a 42-year-old prosecutor working in Germany, died on September 13 at Silivri State Hospital in Istanbul. Authorities have launched a judicial inquiry after classifying her passing as suspicious, with the exact cause of death currently under investigation by forensic experts.

Circumstances surrounding the fatal incident

Tunç arrived in Turkey for vacation purposes accompanied by her husband, Aykut T., and they stayed at a residence in the Mimar Sinan neighborhood of Silivri. Born in Hamburg and holding German citizenship, she had reportedly suffered from chronic hypertension and experienced vomiting symptoms for approximately four days prior to the event.

Her condition worsened during the early hours of September 13, leading her to seek medical attention at 02:42. After being registered at the emergency department, she was waiting for treatment when she suddenly deteriorated. Medical staff moved her to the red zone for critical care, but despite their interventions, she passed away at 04:50.

Forensic review initiated

The unexpected nature of the death inside the hospital triggered an immediate assessment of the situation as suspicious. Consequently, legal proceedings were opened to determine the precise factors contributing to her demise. The body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institution to facilitate this technical examination.
