Netflix documentary revisits Thomas Randolph’s double murder conviction
A new Netflix true crime series examines the case of Thomas Randolph, convicted for killing his sixth wife and a handyman in Las Vegas.

The streaming platform released The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part on Wednesday, September 30. The documentary investigates the legal history of Thomas Randolph, a Nevada resident convicted of murdering Sharon Causse and Michael Miller.
Investigation into marital deaths
Journalist Dan Slepian and Las Vegas detective Dean O’Kelley guide viewers through Randolph’s six marriages. The narrative focuses on the suspicious deaths of several wives and the eventual criminal investigation that led to two murder convictions.
Randolph was arrested in 2009 but remained in custody for eight years before facing trial in 2017. During this period, he frequently hired and dismissed attorneys, causing repeated delays in the judicial process.
Prosecution theory on insurance fraud
Sharon Causse and Michael Miller were killed at their shared Las Vegas home on May 8, 2008. Randolph claimed he returned with Causse and found her shot, stating he then killed Miller, whom he described as an intruder.
Prosecutors argued a different motive. They alleged Randolph recruited Miller, who worked as his handyman, to kill Causse during a staged break-in. The goal was to collect over $300,000 in life insurance proceeds. Authorities stated Randolph subsequently murdered Miller to silence him as a witness. Randolph has consistently maintained his innocence.
The case attracted scrutiny due to Randolph’s marital record. Four of his six wives had died prior to his arrest, though not all incidents resulted in criminal charges or convictions.
Prior acquittal in Utah
Randolph’s second wife, Becky Gault, died in Utah in 1986. Her death was initially classified as suicide. Randolph faced murder charges related to Gault but was acquitted by a Utah jury in 1989.
Legal reversals and final sentencing
A Nevada jury initially found Randolph guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. However, the Nevada Supreme Court overturned this conviction in December 2020.
A retrial occurred in 2023, limited specifically to the killings of Causse and Miller. The jury again returned guilty verdicts on two counts of murder. In April 2024, Randolph received a sentence of 60 years to life.
Current incarceration status
Randolph is currently serving his term at the Lovelock Correctional Center in Pershing County, Nevada. He is 71 years old.
As of September 2026, the Nevada Supreme Court dismissed his appeal plea and upheld the conviction. Randolph has repeatedly attempted to challenge his latest sentence without success.
