A 16-year-old boy in Casoria suffered fatal anaphylactic shock shortly after consuming ice cream, despite his known severe milk allergy and careful precautions. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Minutes after eating ice cream with friends, a 16-year-old boy collapsed from anaphylactic shock and later died in Casoria, Italy. Adriano D’Orsi, who was aware of his severe allergy to milk proteins, experienced immediate respiratory distress following his first bites. He sought help from his friends, who assisted him in reaching his father’s home, where attempts to stabilize him with cortisone failed.
Emergency responders arrived to find Adriano unconscious, and despite their efforts, he could not be revived. His mother, Antonietta Esposito, explained that Adriano had long managed his allergy by carefully reading food labels and avoiding milk products. She noted that the ice cream shop staff were also aware of his lactose intolerance and directed him toward lactose-free options.
Although Adriano reportedly consumed dairy-free fruit ice cream, authorities suspect possible milk contamination, potentially from shared scoops or machinery at the gelateria. Police have confiscated several ice cream tubs from the establishment as part of their ongoing inquiry.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the precise cause of death. Adriano was a third-year student at the nautical institute in Bagnoli, aspiring to become a ship captain. His mother shared heartfelt memories of his ambitions and character, describing him as a devoted son who dreamed of traveling the world.
