The Zimbabwe Republic Police verified that the aircraft descended in the Marondera Rural area during the evening hours. Commissioner Paul Nyathi, serving as the national police spokesman, stated that the helicopter carried six occupants at the time of the crash. Authorities noted that emergency crews responded immediately to the site, located near Waddilove Mission in Mashonaland East Province.

Wicknell Chivayo stood out as one of Zimbabwe’s most visible commercial figures, frequently showcasing an opulent existence across digital platforms. Beyond corporate activities, Chivayo gained attention for distributing costly presents, such as vehicles, to musicians, celebrities, and religious leaders. Family representative Herbert Chivayo validated the deaths, confirming that both Wicknell and his wife had lost their lives in the disaster. The couple’s affluent habits were well-documented online prior to the accident.
Political ties and ongoing investigation
Chivayo maintained notable connections within the political sphere, often describing President Emmerson Mnangagwa as his “principal.” He shared images depicting meetings with various African leaders. His commercial operations and political associations previously drew scrutiny regarding public procurement and funding allegations, which he consistently denied.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and an investigation remains active. Police and emergency services continued to operate at the scene as inquiries progressed. At the time of reporting, the identities of the other four victims had not been officially released by law enforcement. Government representatives extended condolences to the families and friends affected by the loss.
