Alcaraz, Sinner and Osaka confirmed for 2027 One Point Slam
Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff have committed to the revived One Point Slam at the 2027 Australian Open.

The Australian Open will reintroduce its experimental One Point Slam competition in 2027, with Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, American Coco Gauff, Japanese player Naomi Osaka and Italian Jannik Sinner among those who agreed on Thursday to participate. The event is scheduled to return to Melbourne Park ahead of the season’s first Grand Slam tournament.
Format and previous winner
The inaugural edition took place earlier this year at Melbourne Park, featuring 24 professional players alongside 24 amateurs and celebrities granted wildcard entries. Each match consisted of a single point, where the winner advanced and the loser was eliminated from the competition.
In an unexpected outcome, amateur Jordan Smith defeated a field of stars before packed stands at Rod Laver Arena. Smith claimed the prize money of A$1 million (US$670,000) by winning his final point.
Grassroots engagement focus
Tom Larnar from Tennis Australia stated that the format allows grassroots-level tennis players to share the spotlight with some of the sport's biggest names. He noted that the presence of confirmed stars like Alcaraz, Gauff, Osaka and Sinner, competing alongside ordinary Australians, embodies the core purpose of the event: bringing people together through tennis.
Qualification and attendance plans
The amateur roster for the upcoming edition will again include winners from eight state-based tournaments held across Australia, plus eight additional qualifiers emerging from preliminary rounds. Organizers are planning further expansions for the 2027 tournament, which is set to run from January 17 to 31.
These preparations follow the 2026 Australian Open, which attracted more than 1.3 million spectators. Authorities aim to increase viewing capacity and seating numbers for the next iteration of the championship.
