Russian Gymnasts Secure Visas Days Before European Championships
Four Russian gymnasts—Angelina Melnikova, Anna Kalmykova, Lilia Vasilieva, and Alexei Osatchev—received visas for the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb after diplomatic intervention.

Russian gymnasts Angelina Melnikova, Anna Kalmykova, Lilia Vasilieva, and Alexei Osatchev have obtained the necessary visas to compete in the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships, according to a report by RIA Novosti citing the Russian Embassy in Croatia.
Diplomatic coordination resolves entry issue
The Russian Embassy in Croatia credited the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic mission in Croatia for their efforts in resolving the visa crisis. It also extended thanks to the leadership of the Croatian Gymnastics Federation for its intervention and contribution to settling the matter.
Championship schedule and qualification role
The European Artistic Gymnastics Championships will take place in Zagreb from 13 to 23 August. The event serves as one of the qualifying stops for the World Championships scheduled for October in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Neutral status remains in effect
Russian athletes will participate in the championships under a neutral designation, consistent with ongoing restrictions on their international participation.
Earlier difficulties in securing entry visas—including for team coaches and medical staff—had raised concerns about the Russian national team’s ability to attend the competition.
