Spanish club Real Madrid delayed their main rival's early celebration of winning La Liga with 4 rounds remaining, by defeating Espanyol.

Real Madrid's victory over Espanyol, with a brace from Brazilian Vinicius Junior, postponed Barcelona's La Liga title win and made one of the potential scenarios for Barça to win the title in El Clásico.

Barcelona will host Real Madrid at "Spotify Camp Nou" next Sunday, May 10, in a clash where avoiding defeat will mean Barça's title win.

Barcelona has two scenarios against Real Madrid to clinch the title: the first is a draw, and the second is a win, because in both cases it will be impossible for Los Blancos to match Barça's points tally until the end of the season.

Barcelona has 88 points at the top of La Liga, 11 points ahead of Real Madrid with 4 rounds remaining. If their match ends in a draw, it will be impossible for Real to close the 11-point gap in the last 3 rounds.

If Barcelona wins, the gap will become 14 points with 3 rounds remaining (worth nine points), and thus coach Álvaro Arbeloa's men will officially throw in the towel as well.

Other Scenarios

But apart from that, there are other scenarios. The first is a Real Madrid victory, which would narrow the gap with Barcelona to 8 points with 3 rounds remaining.

In that case, Barcelona would need to win any of their three matches against Deportivo Alavés, Real Betis, and Valencia on May 13, 17, and 24 to win the title.

Another scenario for Barça's title win would be Real Madrid dropping points in any of their three remaining matches against Real Oviedo, Sevilla, and Athletic Bilbao, either by losing or drawing, on the 14th, 17th, and 24th of this month.

It is worth noting that if Barcelona wins the expected La Liga title this season, they will reach their 29th title, putting them only 7 titles away from Real Madrid, who have 36 titles.
