Barcelona and Real Madrid are preparing for an anticipated match next Sunday, within the thirty-fifth round of the Spanish League. The match holds special importance for the host team, Barcelona, as a draw is enough for them to secure the league title three rounds before the end of the season.
The Referees Committee of the Spanish Football Federation announced the appointment of referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez to officiate this anticipated Clasico, according to the Spanish newspaper "ABC." Referee Juan Martinez Munuera will be responsible for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology during the match.
It is worth noting that Hernandez Hernandez, born on the tenth of November 1982, has held the international referee badge since 2014, and is classified among the top referees in the Spanish arena.
The relationship between the international referee and Real Madrid does not seem to be at its best, as he has previously faced harsh criticism from the club's official channel and its affiliated newspapers. This criticism came in the wake of refereeing errors attributed to him in previous matches, most notably two previous Clasico encounters, in addition to the Madrid derby.
Fortunately for referee Hernandez Hernandez, the second-leg Clasico in the league does not carry a completely decisive nature in the title race this season. The reason is Barcelona's eleven-point lead at the top of the standings, which may give the referee more room to manage the match without significant pressure from either side.
