Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 Rolls Out with Notification Intelligence Menu

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 is now available as a pre-stable update ahead of the December general release. The build delivers functional refinements, UI adjustments, and critical stability improvements across Pixel devices.

New system-level features and UI changes

The update introduces a unified Notification intelligence menu that brings together AI-powered Notification summaries, the Notification organizer, and Notification cooldown functionality. Users will also notice newly added badges in the Wallpaper & style section. A long-press menu tweak modifies interaction behavior in select system interfaces, and status bar customization options have been expanded.

Pixel 11 support confirmed but not yet live

A build identifier—CP41.260814.003.C2—has been assigned to the upcoming Pixel 11 family: Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. As of Friday afternoon, this build remains unavailable. Google’s official statement confirms it “will be available soon.”

Platform stability milestone achieved

This beta marks a platform stability milestone, resolving multiple high-priority issues reported in prior versions. Among them: a transparent status bar appearing on the launcher after exiting fullscreen video playback when the “render apps below the cutout area” developer setting was enabled (Issue #295747911); a thermal management flaw causing overheating and unexpected reboots during active use (Issue #437116407); and failure to mirror screens to external USB-C XR glasses (Issue #439269938).

Additional resolved platform issues

Gesture navigation responsiveness improved after fixes for unresponsiveness triggered by rendering apps below the display cutout (Issue #441378954). The 80% battery limit optimization no longer causes excessive charge times during the final 2% threshold (Issue #477009501, Issue #476803337). App search in the app drawer now correctly processes text input (Issue #505157934, Issue #527921034, Issue #530531588, Issue #537704656). The power menu invoked via hardware buttons now displays the correct background blur effect behind the navigation bar (Issue #537202501).

Phone call audio routing now defaults to connected Bluetooth devices instead of the phone speaker (Issue #537908014, Issue #541501134, Issue #541772860, Issue #545047074). The Recents app switcher no longer exhibits intermittent freezing or visual clipping of the first task card during horizontal scrolling (Issue #530484511, Issue #505564040, Issue #545574713, Issue #551022006). An audio service resource lock previously triggered during screen recording—blocking microphone access across apps and input methods including Gboard and Gemini until device restart—has been eliminated (Issue #538229807).

System UI animation consistency has been restored: turning off the screen from the home screen now uses the power-button screen-off animation instead of a plain fade (Issue #541261786). The low-contrast Wi-Fi settings cog icon in dark mode is now clearly visible (Issue #536320341). Enabling 3D mode on connected smart glasses no longer results in a blank screen (Issue #536628506). The notification bar can now be pulled fully downward without restriction (Issue #539244095, Issue #547801203, Issue #547017781, Issue #546896889, Issue #547163658, Issue #547281675). WebGL applications no longer freeze or crash the browser process when combining shadow maps with vertex color attributes due to a resolved invalid memory read in the PowerVR GPU driver’s texture state processing (Issue #541322087). Low-light Face Unlock failures no longer bypass Fingerprint Unlock and force PIN entry (Issue #547597971, Issue #545329611, Issue #541723970).
