Apple is preparing to reintroduce a ceramic-case Apple Watch, potentially as early as this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Apple plans to bring back the ceramic Apple Watch case option, possibly launching it before year-end, Bloomberg senior reporter Mark Gurman reported in his latest Power On newsletter.
The ceramic variant last appeared in 2019 as part of the Apple Watch Edition Series 5, when Apple still used the “Edition” designation for models featuring premium materials. That model marked the final iteration of the ceramic line before its discontinuation.
White ceramic debuted with the Apple Watch Series 2. Black ceramic followed with the Series 3. Both colors were dropped entirely for the Series 4. Only white ceramic returned—exclusively—with the Series 5. The entire ceramic lineup was discontinued at the time of the Series 6 launch in 2020.
Ceramic offered a deep-gloss finish and high scratch resistance. With nearly seven years since its last appearance, the ceramic Apple Watch has evolved into a rare collector’s item.
Current Apple Watch models include the Series 11, available in aluminum or titanium, and the Apple Watch Ultra, offered exclusively in titanium. Titanium models begin at $699; aluminum Series 11 models start at $399.
Gurman indicated Apple is developing ceramic as a new style option, positioning it above existing materials. The Series 5 ceramic model launched at a starting price of $1299—a figure widely cited as a likely benchmark for the upcoming version.
