Casio Unveils G-Shock Model Featuring Unique Rainbow Glass Coating
Casio is set to release the GM-S5600XG-1 in June 2026, a G-Shock watch distinguished by its individually vacuum-deposited rainbow glass, ensuring no two units are identical. This collaboration with Japanese group XG combines classic design with innovative materials and targets music and fashion enthusiasts.

The GM-S5600XG-1, Casio’s latest G-Shock model, introduces a rainbow glass display cover applied through a vacuum deposition process unique to each watch, resulting in a one-of-a-kind color gradient on every unit. Scheduled for launch in June 2026, this watch is part of a collaboration with XG, a seven-member Japanese hip-hop and R&B group designated as G-SHOCK’s global ambassador in July 2025.
Built on the iconic 5600 platform, the GM-S5600XG-1 adopts the slimmer and shorter GM-S body designed for smaller wrists, measuring 44×38×11mm and weighing approximately 50 grams. The design incorporates a black bezel, a bio-resin strap, and subtle XG branding on the dial, strap loop, and caseback, presenting a minimalist aesthetic aside from the iridescent glass.
Casio plans to release additional color variants, including a pink version. The watch maintains standard G-Shock specifications such as 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, an auto-calendar valid through 2099, a Super Illuminator LED backlight, and a battery life estimated at around three years.
XG, notable for being the first Japanese girl group to perform at Coachella in April 2025 and boasting over three million Instagram followers, aligns with Casio’s strategy to appeal to a music-fashion crossover market where limited-edition collaborations serve as both merchandise and functional timepieces.
The rainbow glass technique employed in the GM-S5600XG-1 resembles vacuum deposition methods found in higher-end watchmaking, such as Seiko’s Presage series, providing each watch with a distinct finish. However, Casio has not yet provided information regarding the durability of this coating against everyday wear and scratches.
The GM-S5600XG-1 will be available for purchase through Casio’s official online store starting June 2026. Although the exact price has not been announced, it is expected to carry a premium over standard 5600 models, similar to the Bamford x G-Shock GM-5600 collaboration which launched at $280. Wider retail availability remains unconfirmed at this time.
