Samsung introduces the Odyssey G8, a 32-inch 6K gaming monitor with Dual Mode, priced at $1,600 in the US.

Samsung has introduced the Odyssey G8 (G80HS), a 32-inch gaming monitor featuring a 6K resolution of 6,144×3,456 pixels on an IPS panel, priced at $1,600 in the United States. This display offers a pixel density of 224 pixels per inch, surpassing the typical 4K resolution commonly found in premium gaming monitors.
The Odyssey G8 includes Samsung's Dual Mode feature, which allows users to switch between a native 6K resolution at a 165Hz refresh rate and a 3K resolution at 330Hz. The 3K mode halves the linear resolution but doubles the refresh rate, catering to different gaming scenarios: high-resolution cinematic single-player gaming at 6K and fast-paced multiplayer gaming at 3K.
Samsung has not disclosed the specific graphics processing unit (GPU) requirements needed to run games at 6K and 165Hz. The absence of HDR peak brightness specifications and GPU recommendations leaves uncertainty for users assessing compatibility with their existing hardware. For most gamers, the 3K/330Hz mode is expected to handle the majority of gaming demands.
Alongside the Odyssey G8, Samsung announced two other models. The 27-inch Odyssey G7 (G80HF) offers a 5K resolution (5,120×2,880) at 180Hz or QHD resolution at 360Hz via Dual Mode. This model is priced at €709 in Germany and will ship there starting May 22.
The Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SH) is available in 27- and 32-inch versions with a 4K resolution at 240Hz, featuring Samsung’s QD-OLED Penta Tandem panel. This OLED variant targets users prioritizing contrast and black-level performance, carrying VESA DisplayHDR True Black certification and a Glare Free coating.
All three monitors support DisplayPort 2.1, enabling the bandwidth necessary for uncompressed next-generation video signals. They also include AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility across the lineup.
The Odyssey G8 (G80HS) is currently available for order in the US at $1,600, with an early-order $50 discount offered. Pricing and retail details for the UK have not been announced. In Germany, the monitor is priced at €1,499 and will ship starting June 19.
Samsung controls approximately 19% of the global gaming monitor market and plans to release six new Odyssey models in 2026, including esports-focused displays with 3D capabilities and refresh rates up to 1,040Hz later this year.
