Telegram has rolled out a new capability that permits bots to engage in conversations with other bots independently. This advancement aims to enhance automation and streamline interactions within the messaging app.

New Bot Interaction Capabilities

Earlier this year, the emergence of Moltbook—a platform where every post and comment was generated by AI bots—highlighted the growing interest in autonomous digital communication. Following this trend, Telegram's CEO Pavel Durov announced on X that the platform now supports bot-to-bot communication, responding to developer demands.

Pavel Durov said, “AI devs asked for this — and we delivered. Bots can now talk to other bots on Telegram.”

He emphasized that this feature introduces a communication layer for autonomous agents that humans can monitor, potentially transforming how bots perform tasks without direct human input.

How Bot-to-Bot Communication Works

This functionality was included in Telegram's update released on May 7. To enable bots to converse, users must activate the Bot-to-Bot Communication Mode for both the sending and receiving bots. Once enabled, bots can reply to one another directly rather than only interacting with human users.

Telegram describes itself as the sole platform where various AI models can compete openly while users maintain full control over their experience.

Applications and Automation

The new feature allows for the automation of workflows through fully autonomous agents. For example, a collaborator bot can request a code review from a reviewer bot and process the feedback within a group chat, all without human intervention.

Additionally, bots can collaborate privately to create and execute new autonomous workflows. One bot may also utilize another as a tool to perform tasks such as booking reservations, handling customer inquiries, or managing complex operations on behalf of users.

Unlike Moltbook, which focused solely on AI-driven social media content, Telegram's update expands the scope of bot-to-bot communication to practical automation uses.

Chat Automation and Guest Bots

Telegram also introduced Chat Automation, enabling users to link their profiles to bots that can respond to messages automatically. Users can select specific chats for automation through the chat automation settings.

The platform has launched a Guest Bots feature, allowing AI assistants and automated tools to be mentioned in any private or group chat without being chat members. By tagging a bot's username in a message, users can prompt bots to answer questions, fact-check, generate content, or perform tasks within the same chat.

Telegram specifies that bots operating in Guest Bots mode only access the tagged message and respond to it, without visibility into other chat participants or messages.
