Warhorse Studios Announces New Middle-earth RPG and Kingdom Come Sequel
Warhorse Studios revealed two upcoming projects: an open-world RPG set in Middle-earth and a new Kingdom Come adventure. Details on release dates, platforms, and storylines remain undisclosed.

Two major projects are underway at Warhorse Studios, including a new open-world RPG based on Middle-earth and a follow-up to Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The studio shared this information in a concise post on X, confirming the development of both games without providing further specifics on timelines or gameplay.
In their announcement, Warhorse stated, "You may have heard some rumours, so it's time to reveal what we're working on: an open-world RPG set in Middle-earth and a new Kingdom Come adventure. We'll share more when the time is right." The Middle-earth title is categorized as an RPG, while the Kingdom Come project is described simply as a "new adventure," leaving its exact genre open to interpretation.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 achieved significant success, selling 5 million copies within its first year following its February 2025 release and earning BAFTA awards. This track record places high expectations on Warhorse as it tackles the Lord of the Rings franchise, which has seen recent titles like Gollum and Return to Moria receive mixed or negative reviews.
One notable development is the departure of Daniel Vávra, Warhorse’s co-founder and the creative lead behind Kingdom Come, who left game development in February 2026. Vávra is currently engaged in a film or television adaptation of Kingdom Come, having completed a draft script. Warhorse has not announced a successor to lead creative direction on either of the new projects.
Warhorse's expertise in crafting medieval, historically grounded narratives aligns with the potential for a darker, low-magic Middle-earth setting. However, the challenge remains whether the studio can manage two large-scale projects simultaneously without its founding creative director.
Details regarding platforms, pricing, and release schedules have yet to be disclosed. Warhorse indicated that further information will be shared "when the time is right."
