Donald Trump to Present Trophy at 2026 World Cup Final, FIFA President Confirms

Donald Trump is expected to attend the final match of the 2026 World Cup, where he will join FIFA President Gianni Infantino in presenting the trophy to the champions, Infantino confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, Infantino stated, "We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner of course."

Despite this planned appearance, Trump has not been present at any World Cup matches so far, including the U.S. Men’s National Team’s opening games against Paraguay and Australia.

Before the tournament began, Trump reportedly called the U.S. Men’s National Team, expressing optimism by saying, “I think you’ve got a really good chance of going all the way,” according to The Athletic.

Trump’s recent public engagements include attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York, which was the only game the New York Knicks lost, as well as UFC 250 held on the White House lawn.

During his Madison Square Garden visit, Trump was met with jeers from Knicks fans, who later filmed themselves burning sage outside the arena before Game 4, claiming to cleanse the negative energy they attributed to his presence.

FIFA President Infantino appears to be an ally of Trump, having awarded him the newly created FIFA World Peace award after Trump was denied the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year.

Infantino’s remarks on Fox News came a day after The Telegraph published an article addressing Trump’s absence from the World Cup matches.

Andrew Giuliani, head of Trump’s World Cup task force, told The Telegraph that the president’s absence is intentional, designed to keep the public guessing.

“I know he’s got a couple of international trips that he has planned as well as Independence Day, so the only thing I’ll tell you about my boss—and I’ve known him for, heck, 30 years, and he’s kind of like an uncle figure to me—he likes a good cliffhanger, right?” Giuliani said.

He added that Trump “likes to leave people watching, so all I can tell you is ‘keep tuned in’, and I’m excited to see what the next steps are.”

Trump previously drew attention during the Club World Cup trophy presentation when he remained on stage with the celebrating Chelsea players instead of exiting immediately after handing over the award at MetLife Stadium.

“They told me that he was going to present the trophy and then exit the stage,” Chelsea player Reece James said, according to the BBC. “I thought that he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay."
