FIFA President Infantino Surprises Iranian Players After Unusual Goal Celebration

Following Iran's 2-2 draw against New Zealand in the 2026 World Cup match held early Tuesday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino unexpectedly visited the Iranian players in their dressing room. The game featured an unusual celebration by the Iranian players that resembled gunfire.

New Zealand took the lead in the seventh minute with a goal from Eli Just. Iran equalized in the 32nd minute when Ramin Rezaeian followed up to score. Just then restored New Zealand’s advantage in the 54th minute, finishing after a pass from Wood past Iran’s goalkeeper Ali Reza Beiranvand.

Iran leveled the score again ten minutes later when Mohammad Mohibi headed the ball, which hit the far post and went into the net. His celebration mimicked firing a gun.

After the match, Gianni Infantino entered the Iranian team’s locker room and pledged to assist in resolving some of the difficulties the team has faced during the tournament.
