Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of Brazil's national team, stated that Neymar's recovery from a calf injury is progressing satisfactorily, positioning him as a strong contender to participate in Brazil's opening match at the 2026 World Cup.

Neymar was called up to the Brazilian squad this month despite not being part of Ancelotti's plans during the Italian coach's year-long tenure leading the "Seleção".

The Santos forward, Brazil's all-time top scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances, was excluded from friendly matches against Panama and Egypt by the Brazilian Football Confederation due to a calf injury sustained last Thursday. This decision sparked debate about the Brazilian star's readiness for the 2026 World Cup.

Addressing the issue before Brazil's friendly against Panama on Sunday, Ancelotti told reporters, "Before announcing the squad, we received a report from Santos indicating the player had a minor problem involving some swelling. We allowed Santos to manage it until May 27."

The Italian coach added, "Neymar was called up because, from the technical staff's perspective, it was necessary. After May 27, the Brazilian Football Confederation took over responsibility for Neymar's condition, which is what we have done. We are managing Neymar's recovery process and believe he will recover as soon as possible."

He continued, "He is working well and in good spirits. We believe he will be ready for the first match of the World Cup, or at the latest the second. Therefore, we have no intention whatsoever of replacing any player."

Brazil, aiming to secure their sixth World Cup title to extend their record, will face Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland in Group C of the tournament. The competition is scheduled to take place across the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19.

The Brazilian team will begin their World Cup campaign on June 14 with a crucial opening match against Morocco.
