Vinicius Junior, a key player for Brazil's national team, showed a gesture of respect towards his compatriot Neymar da Silva ahead of the 2026 World Cup set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Brazil is drawn into Group C for the tournament, where they will face Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti.

Vinicius Junior has decided to relinquish the number 10 jersey to Neymar, while he will return to wearing his former number 7 shirt.

Previously, Vinicius had worn the number 10 jersey in Brazil's friendly matches against France and Croatia, stepping in due to the absence of fellow Brazilian Rodrigo Goes because of injury.

Additionally, Rafinha will wear the number 11 jersey, and Endrick will be assigned number 19.

The network "O Globo" reported that Neymar will don the number 10 jersey at the World Cup for the fourth time, matching the achievement of Pelé.

Neymar first wore the number 10 shirt during the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil and continued to wear it in the 2018 and 2022 editions.

Across his World Cup appearances, Neymar has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 13 matches. He is set to continue Pelé's legacy in the 2026 tournament.

Pelé wore the number 10 jersey for Brazil in the 1958, 1962, 1966, and 1970 World Cups.
